Local doctors and healthcare professionals are asking for feedback on proposals to change and develop urgent care and walk-in services in North West Surrey.
Walk In Centre type facilities are now referred to as UTC’s or Urgent Treatment Centres.
Urgent treatment centres (UTCs) are GP-led, open at least 12 hours a day, every day, offer appointments that can be booked through 111 or through a GP referral, and are equipped to diagnose and deal with many of the most common ailments people attend A&E for.
UTCs will also ease the pressure on hospitals, leaving other parts of the system free to treat the most serious cases. The UTC offer will result in decreased attendance at A&E, or, in co-located services offer the opportunity for streaming at the front door. All UTC services will be considered a Type 3 A&E.
This level of service is being reviewed as part of The Big Picture programme which is also looking at how to address the pressure on health and care services from a growing and aging population, the changing needs of people with long term conditions like diabetes and heart disease and the ever increasing challenge of recruiting the right health and care staff.
Building on engagement with the local community last year, health and care leaders now want to ask people for other ideas on how to reshape community based services to offer the most appropriate care for their needs now and in the future.

Following a period of public engagement last year, a shortlist of seven possible options has been developed working with local clinicians. It includes different configurations for UTCs across Woking, Weybridge and Ashford.
The options above seem to indicate where you would like the UTC to be operating from, with options ranging from all 4 locations (Option 1) to just operating from St Peter’s (Option 7).
Residents can attend a series of public events to give their views on this shortlist and discuss how a greater range of support could also be offered in the community – the first of which is this Wednesday (22nd) at Whiteley Village Hall.
