Following the significant rebuilding works and reopening of our school in 2016, we’ve increased total capacity by more than a third and are proud to now have capacity for 90 pupils per year group.
We’ve been investing into our school and amenities to ensure great spaces are available to help our children learn and to prepare them for later life. We’re making best use of the space we have available and this year we renovated the ball-court and enlarged the playground area.
Children are already enjoying the re-surfaced Ball Court, a rainbow pathway and new playground equipment.
The renovations cost a total of £35,000, and it’s a significant improvement that wouldn’t have been possible without the CIL funding received from Elmbridge Council, as well as the £5000 donation from our PTA group, Friends of Manby Lodge (FOML).
We’re incredibly fortunate to have such high-quality outdoor spaces available for our children.
The outside learning environment for our Reception classes is large and provides a range of opportunities for our youngest learners. This year we introduced Forest Schools to our curriculum and Year 2 have been the first year group to take up Forest School sessions, and we’ll be opening it up more widely across all year groups in coming months.
We believe that spending time outdoors is all-important. At Manby Lodge we work hard to build childrens’ resilience and independence and we’re proud of how well our children respond to challenges provided for them.
We’re very lucky to have an incredibly active PTA group, Friends of Manby Lodge (FOML) who consistently find fun and innovative ways to fundraise to provide valuable financial support for school projects. FOML regularly organises a range of events for our children and social events for the parent community as they seek to raise an ambitious annual target of in the excess of £20,000.
Some of their more notable events include the annual Summer and Christmas Fairs, as well as classroom experiences such as ZooLab, and of course they kindly donate 25% to help subsidise school trips for all children. Coming up, the FOML will be hosting our fun Pumpkin Display with everyone getting very excited in the run up to Halloween.
These links with our parents and carers are very important to us at Manby Lodge and earlier this year I April we achieved the Leading Parent Partnership Award – an important milestone which has taken eighteen months to achieve and which recognises the high levels of communication between our school and our parent community.
Having strong and active relationships between home and school is key to success and as part of this we host regular in-school shared learning sessions and in addition, curriculum workshops for parents and carers so that they are able to support children with learning at home.
We are really looking forward to working with children and parents and of course to more exciting developments and events in the coming months!
